This drawing is based on a photograph taken by my daughter, Alice, at Leeds Castle, Kent, U.K. during Easter weekend 2015. The corridor is modern, plastered; my ‘Castle Walls’ are imaginary but I have essayed to render accurately the figure and the light.

The Hundred Artworks Challenge, 10/100
Door of old building at Vassilitsi, Messinias, Greece. Drawn for a sketch made 'On Location' on 16th April.
I drew the left-hand doorpost far too dark and had to again resort to using Zinc White gouach paint to lighten its non-shadow areas.

The 100 Artworks Challenge, 9/100
Carrigdrohid Castle on the river Lee, Co. Cork, Ireland
Drawn on Fabriano 200gm2 paper with a variety of nib widths of Pigma Micron pens, a Pentel Brush Pen and a wash over the entire sky with semi-opaque Zinc White Gouache paint. Before the wash was applied the sky was far too dark to allow any contrast between it and the castle. A conceit, I know, but it seems to have worked tolerably well.
Finished on 19th April 2015.
The 100 Artworks Challenge 8/100
Whitethorn Tree, Co. Clare, Ireland
Drawn on Fabriano 200gm2 paper with a variety of nib widths of Pigma Micron pens, a Pentel Brush Pen and some opaque Titanium White Gouache paint used to give extra emphasis to the blossom.
12th April 2015.
Right:

The 100 Artworks Challenge
In March I joined the '100 Artworks Challenge'; a personal committment to produce, over an unlimited period of time but sticking to one theme and one set of materials, 100 artworks. The idea of working within these limits is to explore in depth the possibilities of the chosen set of media. I have chosen to work largely with pen and ink on paper but have allowed myself the added luxuries of using both Titanium (opaque) and Zinc (Semi-opaque) White Gouache paint and a brush pen charged with black ink. For my theme I shall be drawing subjects which will illustrate the juxtaposition of organic and inorganic materials. All the drawings are square, mostly 8 × 8 cms.
Renaissance
Over three years ago I began to post to this blog with the idea of keeping it as a repository for my artworks. I started well enough but more recently I have become rather lackadaisical about posting. From today I shall be trying to steer the blog back on course.
