Fellow blogger Andrew MacLaren-Scott posted recently a couple of excellent photographs of the scenery near his home in Scotland after the first snow of this winter. So impressed was I with Andrew's pictures that I could not resist attempting this quick sketch.
I made the drawing using Rohrer & Klingner Leipzig inks; 'Scabiosa' for the background, 'Sepia' for the foreground.
For a "quick sketch" that's very good John. The foreground hills is great, the view across flat Strathearn to the distant hills and sky would need a bit more attention. I am glad to have inspired you. But what if I told you my originals were actually drawings in oil, not photos at all, eh? Would you be jealous or just call me a liar?
ReplyDeleteI meant 'The foreground is great', not 'The foreground hills is great', for that would not be grammatical, tut tut.
DeleteThank you Andrew. If you tell me your originals were drawings or paintings I would be in awe of your talent rather than envious of it. If I did not believe you I would not call you a liar, it would sit more comfortably with me and do me no harm to accept what I believed to be your delusion; whether photographs or drawings I found the originals beautiful and inspiring.
DeleteThe appropriate title for your sketch is "Dunning Glen from the pass through the Ochil Hills", by the way.
ReplyDeleteI did recognise the location; for the past 35 years my preferred route to Perth from my sister's home at Dollar has been through Dunning. It is not the fastest route but it is stunningly beautiful.
DeletePassed here again today in the Spring sunshine. Next time I'll stop for a photo and set you the challenge of catching it in summer
ReplyDeleteRest assured I shall rise to that challenge Andrew.
