17th February

It is illegal here to have bonfires after the end of March.  We have until then to cut back and burn the 'jungle' that each year does its best to swallow the paths and tracks around our land.

  1. Wow, it's a difficult medium John. Good on you for keeping on with it... you might like to have a look at Rob Carey's work, he's on my profile page, a wonderful artist and an inspiration... go back to some older posts of his, I'm sure you'll enjoy...

    1. It is indeed a difficult medium Keith, I am so looking forward to next Tuesday when I shall be starting a new sketchbook and abandoning my self-imposed discipline of using only pen drawn line to make my drawings. Thank you for the introduction to Rob Carey, as you say an inspiration, I enjoyed both his drawings and his words albeit that his 'God' is, I believe, somewhat removed from my own!
      Have you seen http://www.etsy.com/blog/en/2013/quit-your-day-job-the-paris-letters-by-janiceartship/ ?
A young woman with a great idea of keeping shelter and a full stomach for herself with little in the way of start-up or ongoing overhead costs. No "but what ifs" she has just got on with it!

  2. A venture into a new style recently, I see, although my favourites of your work are some of the lovely watercolour ones with character of places and sometimes people shining out from just a few carefully made lines.

And thanks for posting that Paris Letters page - where there is a very inspiring story.

    1. Thank you for your comment. I have not so much ventured into a new style as, in the interests of practising 'seeing' things in terms of tone, limiting myself, for the life of one sketchbook, to using only pen and ink. It has been an interesting and useful experiment but I am very much looking forward now to next week when I shall reach the last page of the current sketch book and return to recording the flakes of my life, even the predominantly grey ones, with rather more colour!
I am pleased that you too admired the 'Paris Letters' page, can we look forward shortly to a wealth generating "Postcards from Perthshire; encounters with aliens" page?

    2. No postcards from me John, just books and hopefully a few more articles. The 'Paris Letters' page reminded me of some things that are important to remember, I feel, especially whenever mundane conformity catches us and tries to pull us into its awful embrace. But you seem to steer fairly clear of it these days. Good wishes to you.
